It made sad when I realised that the UK is no longer creating multiple new musical genres every decade.

  • House Music: Emerged ~1983–1985 (Chicago). I was 1.
  • Hardcore: Emerged (~1988–1992, UK) I was 5
  • Jungle: Emerged ~1991–1994 (UK). I was 9.
  • Drum & Bass: ~1994–1996 (UK). I was 12.
  • UK Garage: Emerged ~1994–1996 (UK). I was 12.
  • Dubstep: Emerged ~1998–2002 (UK). I was 17.

I'm now 42 and there has not been anything "new" in electronic music. Don't get me wrong, my Soundcloud is full of new music I love. And within each genre, especially Drum & Bass, there is immense variation and incorporation of other styles - culminating with Goldie's orchestral performance of 'Timeless'

Of course there is huge overlap between genres (my mate correctly described early dubstep and just "slowed down dnb")
